Thin ceramic shells bonded to the front surface of the teeth can change their colour, shape and proportions, often with far less tooth reduction than full crowns. When planned well, the result can look natural and last for many years.
But veneers are not the right solution for every smile, and "veneers in Turkey" can mean very different things from one clinic to another. This guide explains what veneers are, who they suit, how the process works in Istanbul and what you should ask before you commit.
What Are Porcelain Veneers?
A porcelain veneer is a thin layer of ceramic, typically around 0.3–0.7 mm depending on the case, that covers the visible front surface of a tooth. It is bonded to the enamel with adhesive techniques. High-quality ceramics reflect light similarly to natural enamel, which is why veneers can look very lifelike.
In many cases only a small amount of enamel needs to be reshaped on the front surface; in selected cases minimal or no preparation is possible. The amount of preparation is decided during planning, not in advance.

Who Are Veneers Suitable For?

- Teeth that look too short, too small or asymmetrical
- Mild misalignment where orthodontic treatment is not preferred (veneers do not replace orthodontics)
When Veneers May Not Be the Right Choice
- Untreated decay or active gum disease
- Uncontrolled teeth grinding or clenching
- Very worn teeth with too little enamel for bonding
- Significant crowding or bite problems that need orthodontic treatment

The Veneer Process in Istanbul
- Remote pre-assessment: You send photos and, if available, an X-ray. We outline possible options and an estimated schedule.
- Examination and planning: In the clinic, teeth, gums and bite are examined and photos and scans are taken for digital smile design.
- Trial smile (mock-up): The planned shape is tried in your mouth with a temporary material, so you can see and discuss the result before any permanent step.
- Preparation and scanning: If needed, minimal preparation is carried out and a digital scan or impression is taken. Temporary veneers may be fitted.
- Laboratory production: Veneers are produced in close coordination with our dental laboratory according to the approved design and shade.
- Try-in and bonding: Fit and colour are checked, then the veneers are permanently bonded and the bite is adjusted.

How Long Do Veneers Last?
Clinical studies report that well-planned porcelain veneers can function successfully for 10 years or more. Longevity depends on case selection, the quality of bonding, oral hygiene and habits such as grinding, nail biting or using the teeth to open things. No clinic can honestly guarantee a fixed lifespan for every patient.
Caring for Your Veneers
- Brush twice daily with a soft brush and a low-abrasive toothpaste
- Clean between your teeth every day with floss or interdental brushes
- Avoid biting hard objects such as pens, nutshells or ice with your front teeth
- Wear a night guard if recommended
- Keep regular check-ups and professional cleanings, including with your dentist at home

Frequently Asked Questions
Do my teeth have to be shaved down for veneers?
Not necessarily to small "pegs". Veneers usually require only minimal reshaping of the front enamel, and in some cases none at all. Heavy reduction is typical of full crowns, not veneers.
How many days do I need in Istanbul for veneers?
Most veneer treatments can be completed in about 5–10 days, depending on the number of teeth and any preliminary treatment.
Can veneers be whitened later?
No. Whitening does not change the colour of ceramic. If you want whiter natural teeth as well, whitening is usually done before the veneer shade is chosen.

When planned conservatively and bonded correctly, veneers preserve most of the natural tooth. Problems usually arise from excessive preparation, poor fit or poor oral hygiene.
What happens if a veneer chips after I return home?
Contact the clinic first and send photos. Small chips can sometimes be polished or repaired; a broken veneer may need replacement, which can be planned with the clinic or a local dentist.
